CD Recording | Rudolph Gruen, Pianist

An historical recording performed from St.Germain’s sheet music.

The Comte de St. Germain was variously described as a courtier, adventurer, charlatan, inventor, alchemist, pianist, violinist and amateur composer, a recurring figure in the stories of occultism -- credited with near god-like powers and longevity.

The music of L'Inconstanza Delusa (1740) was composed in the formal and florid rococo style of the 18th century. The arias reputedly performed at the Paris Opera shortly after their composition. In setting this operatic work for the piano, composer and pianist Rudolph Gruen left the harmonies, rhythms, melodies and form just as St. Germain wrote them. The suite is presented in six movements: gavotte, sarabande, gigue, pastorale, minuetto, and sicilienne.
